Basic Knife Skills

In this class, students will about knife safety, key knife cuts, and how to properly use, store, and care for high quality knives. Students will also learn the difference between sharpening and honing. Students will practice the basic cuts used for home cooking.

Cooking 101: How to Buy on a Budget

Keegan C. Rodgers, Head Baker at the People's Food Co-Op, leads this hands-on and lively workshop on how to shop well on a budget. Students will learn how to prepare meal plans and grocery lists and how to save money at the grocery store.

Discussion will also cover how to maximize the use of ingredients and minimize food waste.

Cookies Galore!

Delicious Caramel 101

This event is intended for grade 6 - adult

Keegan C. Rodgers, Head Baker at the People's Food Co-Op, leads lively workshop on how to make perfect caramel. In this class, students will learn how to make various types of caramel, how to safely cook with hot sugar and how to make brittles. This is a DEMO workshop and attendees won't be making their own caramel, but learn what they need to know to do it at home.

Perfect Pies & Tarts

Wednesday November 9, 2016: 7:00 pm to 8:30 pm -- Downtown Library: Secret Lab

This event is intended for grade 6 - adult

Keegan C. Rodgers, Head Baker at the People's Food Co-Op, leads this hands-on and lively workshop on how to make the perfect pie dough.

Participants will take home enough dough for 2 single crust pies or 1 double crust pie. Learn the difference between pies and tarts, understand the different fillings and crusts for pies and tarts, and understand how to blind bake a pie shell.

Attendees will leave with new baking skills and literature to take home. Tastes of Keegan's baked goods will be included, too!
