Intermediate Origami with Beth Johnson

Learn to create origami with local designer Beth Johnson. In this two hour session, Beth will walk you through one of her more complex designs. No prior origami experience is required, but this design will take the full two hours to fold.

Sewing Lab: Learn to Gather

This event is intended for grade 6 - adult

Sewing instructor Rae Hoekstra of Made by Rae will do a demo on how to gather, and will offer pointers on how to use gathering successfully in your own projects.

Join us for an evening of sewing. We will have our lab's machines set up and staff will be on hand to show you the basics. You can bring a project you've been working on, or just stop by to practice your stitches. We welcome all skill levels, no prior knowledge is necessary. You are free to bring your own sewing machine and join our growing sewing community.

Letterpress Lab

This weekly lab will introduce you to the process, the materials, the machines, and the satisfaction of printing by hand on a cylinder proof press and small platen press. Whether you're new to letterpress or know the lay of a type case like the back of your hand, you'll enjoy playing with AADL’s collection of wood and lead type.

AADL staff will be on hand to show you the basics and we'll explore more advanced printing techniques with special guests. No prior experience necessary. Supplies are provided. You're welcome to return every Wednesday evening to work on multi-week projects.

This program involves direct handling of lead-based type and is therefore not suitable for small children.

Join us for a directed physical computing activity. Be sure to check aadl.org for themes and projects, and bring a flash drive if you want to save any code we create!

Today's topic will focus on Basic Security with the Raspberry Pi: Learn how to detect an open door to trigger an alarm and send a message to your smart phone. Necessary circuitry and coding will be taught but some basic coding experience will be helpful. Attendees are welcome to bring their own Pi.
