Explore the design game Adapt! This new and exciting tool encourages, supports, and guides us through applying a holistic design process to create the world of our dreams.

Through play we ask productive and practical questions that will lead us towards increased care awareness and implementable solutions.

Explorer, designer, and educator Bridget O’Brien will guide you through this journey. She specializes in Permaculture-based regenerative land use, social structure, and self-care design workshops and coaching, and is the creative developer of the design game called Adapt.

Film & Discussion: Grooming a Generation

The 2017 documentary "Grooming a Generation" is a 30-minute film directed by Andy Sacks about local Ypsilanti barbers and their innovative program to get young customers reading:

"Read to your barber while you get a haircut. Get a two dollar refund. Low tech, high concept. No apps, no devices, no software. Just a 25 minute hair appointment, a shelf of books, and an adult who truly cares."

Join us for a screening of this captivating film, followed by a panel discussion with Emmy Award-winning director Sacks and some of the barbers who appear in the film.

Letter Writing to Our Soldiers

Join us in writing letters to our new recruits, deployed soldiers, and veterans. Letters will be mailed to Operation Gratitude who will pack these letters of support in their care packages.

NaNoWriMo Kick Off Party!

If you've ever thought about writing a novel, join us at the NaNoWriMo (National Novel Writing Month) Kick Off Party! Hosted by Ann Arbor municipal liaison Hilary Braley, you'll find fellow first-time and experienced writers to get inspired! This event includes light refreshments.

National Novel Writing Month is a non-profit event that encourages teens and adults to tackle the challenge of writing a novel during the month of November. Participants begin writing on November 1 with the goal of writing a 50,000-word (approximately 175 page) novel by 11:59:59 pm, November 30.

Official NaNoWriMo writing sessions will be held at AADL during November, but get a head start and celebrate with this great kick off party!

To enter, you must be seen by the judges between 12:30–2:00 pm. The award ceremony will be held at 2:30 pm. We will have a FREE photo booth in the Lobby (from 12:00-3:00 pm) for all to enter and commemorate the day as well as snacks and crafts.
