Dia de la Familia

This event is intended for all ages

Join us for this annual family and Latino/a focused event!

This year’s Día de la Familia (Family Day) event features entertainment, games, crafts, food, and face painting. Health information addressing mental, physical, and social issues in the Latino/a community will also be addressed.

This event takes place during National Hispanic Heritage Month and is a partnership with the University of Michigan Comprehensive Cancer Center Community Outreach Program.

3D Printing Lab: Open Lab

Friday October 6, 2017: 6:30 pm to 8:30 pm -- Downtown Library: Secret Lab

This event is intended for grade 6 - adult

Learn about 3D printing and get a chance to use a Printrbot Simple Metal 3D printer.

No prior experience is necessary.

Star Wars Fest

Celebrate Star Wars Reads Month by joining us for a Star Wars Fest!

Drawing for Adults

This event is intended for grade 9 - adult

Come draw with us! We'll provide everything you need to practice your drawing skills.

Every week we’ll cover a different topic. You’ll learn different techniques to tackle texture, chiaroscuro, and perspective, plus improve your sense of composition, lighting, and form. You'll get the chance to try out different mediums like pencil, charcoal, and pastel. All skill levels are welcome to participate.

Sewing Lab: Hemming with Rae Hoekstra

Tuesday October 10, 2017: 7:00 pm to 8:30 pm -- Downtown Library: Secret Lab

This event is intended for grade 6 - adult

Sewing instructor Rae Hoekstra of Made by Rae will do a hemming demo and will offer pointers on how to do this successfully in your own projects. If you have something that needs hemming, feel free to bring it along.

Join us for an evening of sewing. We will have our lab's machines set up and staff will be on hand to show you the basics. You can bring a project you've been working on, or just stop by to practice your stitches. We welcome all skill levels. No prior knowledge is necessary. You are free to bring your own sewing machine and join our growing sewing community.

Finding Funding For College

U-M Foundations and Grants Librarian Paul Barrow presents a workshop for high schoolers, their parents, and anyone seeking funding for college.

Learn about a variety of specialized web resources, how to articulate a plan of study, identify potential funders, apply for relevant educational grants, and compare free Web resources and subscription-based services.

This program will be repeated on Tuesday, November 14.
