Interesting ice cream submitted by ssands on July 3, 2015, 4:46pm This cook book is all about odd flavors of ice cream. You will not find a plain vanilla recipe here, instead most recipes have some unusual ingredient like goat cheese or roasted strawberries, or something in that vein. There are also a lot of recipes for homemade additions like pralines and sauces, all made from scratch. Interestingly, for such an uber-homemade book, the recipes were carefully tweaked using stabilizers like corn starch, commercial cream cheese, and corn syrup. I think these additions probably do make a better consistency, but it was kind of surprising.

I made one of the simpler recipes, Lime cardamom frozen yogurt, and it was well-received by the family. However, I did have to make the lime syrup a day in advance, then make what turned out to be a kind of corn starch pudding before freezing it. It was a lot more work that the simple recipes that came with my ice cream maker. Another thing is that she gives no advice for using regular ice cream makers, just the donvier sort that you freeze part of in the freezer in advance. I don't know why, because it worked fine in an electric, ice and salt, ice cream maker.
