Some scenes were touching, some were funny (of course, it's Tony Stark), and some were filled with action. I really enjoyed this one, in fact better than the first one.

Surprisingly Redeeming submitted by CasualTim on February 17, 2012, 3:35pm I tore into Iron Man (the first) pretty hard for its unwillingness to commit fully to the comic book attitude it seemed to me at the time to only be dabbling clumsily in. Iron Man 2 makes clear where it stands by leaping head-first into the extremely overdone antics of Stark, the "we don't need to explain ourselves" panache of Cheadle's opening line (see also: "that was easy") and the surprisingly-well suited Johannson. The cheek here is really bulging with tongue, and everything works so harmoniously that I may have to give Iron Man (the first) a second glance. There are the fewest of minor missteps (the prologue of the 'incident' at Stark's party goes on a little long), but they seem so suspiciously like moments where the actors are celebrating the foolishness of it all that those, too, work. Well done, Favreau. Well done.

Heroes who give good dry witticisms. The military industrial complex, as represented by Tony Stark is all good--as is the war on terror.

Your worldview will not be stimulated or challenged by this movie.

BUT--it's got a kick-a$$ soundtrack and the bad guys DO get what's coming to them.

Satisfying Superhero Action submitted by Meginator on July 5, 2017, 10:05pm This movie has a surprising amount of depth for a superhero movie, even in this era, and it is pretty good. The action scenes are satisfying and Tony Stark's actions are realistic, even if he is insufferable for a large part of the movie. Some of the villains' shenanigans are a bit more convoluted than necessary, but they are at least intriguing. This movie provides Tony Stark with more depth than the previous film and slots well into the (then-)nascent Marvel Cinematic Universe, even if he is a rather annoying character at times.
